The 6 key areas of learning at Little Hands

Working with children could never be described as a typical day job, and that suits our Manager Claire Hamilton perfectly. She loves what she does, and studied hard to make her dream of working in a nursery become a reality with a BA Hons Degree in Early Childhood Studies with Childhood and Youth Studies, she is also our designated child protection officer.

Claire is an essential part of who we are at Little Hands Little Feet nursery. Like us, she believes that every child deserves the best possible start in life, and is passionate about her role in creating strong foundations in their development. “We want every child that comes into our nursery to love every day,” she says. “But we also want to make sure that we have thought of every stage of their development.”

We believe that children learn best through play, and in tandem with Claire we have developed a structured environment of learning for each child. We want every child at Little Hands Little Feet to enjoy themselves, and also create a stimulating atmosphere for learning. Here we got Claire to explain what the six areas for learning and development at Little Hands Little Feet are:

Physical Development & Movement

“We want every child at the nursery to build skills of co-ordination, control, manipulation and movement, all while having incredible fun!

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

“It is essential that a young child is given the skills to be tolerant, respectful and open-minded at an early age, and we take time to explore these skills in a safe and welcoming environment.

Language Development

“In a supportive environment, we work on listening, speak and communicating with both adults and children, as well as ensuring that each child is developing early skills in reading and writing.

Mathematical Experience

“We build strong early mathematical foundations in the children through stories, song, games and imaginary play. Through enjoying themselves and having fun, the children develop the crucial numerical skills that are needed when they start Primary School.

The World Around Us

“At Little Hands Little Feet we really love to encourage the children to explore and make sense of the world around them. Creating this inquisitive nature in children helps to set foundations for later school work in science, design and technology, history and information communication technology.

The Arts

“An incredible thing about young children is their capacity to dream and imagine adventures. We encourage each child to let their imagination take over through art, music, dance, role play and imagination games.
